Designed Writing
Cincinnati Nature Center Signs
For this assignment, I worked in a group of four to create a couple of signs focused on informing visitors of the Cincinnati Nature Center's restoration efforts. I helped write and edit the text on the signs and gave input on the design. The Nature Center instructed us to create three different signs: a main, relatively general static sign (green sign) that could be placed near different restoration projects, a sign focused on the invasive Amur Honeysuckle (first blue sign), and a sign focused on highlighting the benefits of native plants (second blue sign). The goal of the signs is to educate visitors on the Nature Center's current restoration work, instruct them to stay on the trail, and encourage them to implement restoration efforts in their own yards.
Glenwood Gardens Sign Redesign
For this assignment, I was instructed to write an analysis on a park or museum sign in Writing for Parks and Museums. I used the knowledge from the class lectures and readings to analyze the effectiveness of Glenwood Gardens’ sign. Afterward, I redesigned the sign using the ideas I detailed in my analysis. Since families with young children, senior citizens, and dog walkers frequently visit Glenwood Gardens, I wanted to create a colorful and easy-to-read sign that attracts visitors and encourages them to read the park rules.
